UNDERSTAND THE SCAN

Meet DXA.
See beyond the scales.

DXA, also called DEXA, uses a small amount of X-ray energy to assess bone density. A whole-body composition scan also estimates fat and lean tissue.[2, 5]

Bone density

How much mineral is present in the bones being measured.

Body fat

How much fat you carry and how it is distributed.

Lean tissue

The non-fat soft tissue in your body, including muscle. This is different from muscle strength.

Know more

A bone-density scan usually focuses on the lower spine and hip. A body-composition scan looks across the body. The scan selected depends on the question being asked; a body-composition result does not replace a dedicated osteoporosis assessment.

QUESTIONS THAT MATTER TO YOU

For your life.
For your next chapter.

Understand what an assessment can tell you before deciding whether it fits your needs.

MENOPAUSE & HEALTHY AGEING

Looking after your bones?

Falling oestrogen levels around menopause can speed up bone loss. Bone density is one part of understanding future fracture risk.[3]

Know more

A clinician considers your age, previous fractures, medicines and other risk factors before recommending a scan.[5] The women’s health option combines dedicated spine-and-hip bone density with whole-body composition when both are appropriate.

WEIGHT CHANGE & EVERYDAY FITNESS

What is changing with your weight?

A change on the scales can involve fat and lean tissue. Body composition provides a more detailed view of those changes.[2]

Know more

Selected assessments can support clinician-led weight management or a training review. They measure body composition, not fitness or strength. Repeat scans are most useful when they answer a specific question and can be compared reliably.

BONE HEALTH

Bone mineral density

A dedicated lower-spine and hip assessment.

₹2,500spine + one hip
Know more

Measures bone mineral density to help assess osteoporosis and fracture risk. Your result is interpreted alongside your age and medical history.

Spine + both hips
₹3,000
Single site / forearm
₹1,500
Forearm add-on, when indicated
₹750

BODY COMPOSITION

Whole-body profile

Fat, lean tissue and their distribution.

₹3,000one whole-body scan
Know more

Shows total body-fat percentage, fat mass, lean tissue and bone mineral content, with separate information for the arms, legs and trunk. It can also compare the two sides of the body and fat around the waist and hips.

COMBINED · INCLUDING WOMEN’S HEALTH

Bone + body

Two assessments in one combined package.

₹4,500combined DXA package
Know more

Includes lower-spine and one-hip bone density, plus whole-body fat and lean-tissue analysis with a regional report and clinical interpretation. Suitable for clinically indicated menopause and healthy-ageing reviews when both assessments are needed. Blood tests are not included.

FAT DISTRIBUTION

Visceral fat profile

Body composition with an estimate of deeper abdominal fat.

₹3,500scan and analysis
Know more

Visceral fat is fat around the organs inside the abdomen. This profile adds an estimate of it to your whole-body composition results. It provides information for a clinical review; it does not diagnose diabetes or fatty liver.

FOLLOW-UP

Weight-management review

Compare fat and lean tissue over time.

₹5,500two composition scans
Know more

One baseline scan and one clinically appropriate follow-up, with a written comparison. This can support clinician-led care, including GLP-1 treatment or bariatric follow-up. Your clinician guides the timing. Medicines, blood tests and consultations are not included.

Assessments are selected according to clinical need. The ₹300 radiologist discussion is optional. No additional service is included unless agreed.

Muscle health₹3,500Know more

Looks at lean tissue in the arms and legs, including measurements adjusted for your height. It can support an assessment of age-related muscle loss. Muscle-strength and physical-performance tests are also needed to diagnose sarcopenia and are not included.

Sports & fitness₹3,500Know more

An adult athlete profile showing regional fat and lean tissue, including left–right limb comparison. It provides a baseline for a training or nutrition review, with comparison to suitable previous scans. It does not measure strength or athletic performance.

Vertebral assessment₹3,500Know more

Spine and hip bone density with a side-view assessment of the spinal bones, looking for compression deformities. For specialist-referred bone-health review; some findings need further imaging.

Lateral vertebral / vertebral fracture assessment (LVA / VFA) added to a bone DXA: ₹1,000.

Orthopaedic DXAFrom ₹2,000Know more

Targeted bone measurements around selected implants, knees or the thigh bone, chosen by your specialist. These studies complement, rather than replace, diagnostic X-rays, CT or MRI.

Knee-region study
₹2,000 / knee
Full-femur assessment for atypical-fracture signs

Paediatric bone healthFrom ₹3,500Know more

For selected children referred by a paediatric specialist. Includes lower-spine and whole-body assessment excluding the head, with age-appropriate Z-scores. Growth and medical history are considered when interpreting the results.

Targeted regional analysisFrom ₹3,500Know more

Looks at bone, fat and lean tissue in a selected part of the body, including differences between limbs. Used in selected specialist-referred rehabilitation or postoperative reviews. It does not directly measure muscle strength or diagnose lymphoedema.

YOUR VISIT, EXPLAINED

A little preparation.
A clearer experience.

Practical answers, with links to the professional guidance behind them.

01

Before the scan

Wear comfortable clothes without metal fasteners. Bring previous reports and tell us before booking if pregnancy is possible or you have recently had a contrast scan.

02

During the scan

Lie on an open padded table while the scanning arm passes over you. Bone-density scanning is painless and non-invasive.

03

After the scan

Receive your written report. Choose the optional radiologist discussion if you would like help understanding it.

How should I prepare?

For bone-density scanning, avoid calcium supplements for 24 hours before the appointment and follow the centre’s instructions. You can usually eat normally. Recent barium, CT contrast or nuclear-medicine tests may affect timing, so tell us in advance. Body-composition follow-up needs consistent preparation.

Read the official patient guide [1] ↗
What do T-scores and Z-scores mean?

A T-score compares your bone density with a young-adult reference. A Z-score compares it with people of a similar age. Your clinician selects the appropriate measure.[2, 4]

For postmenopausal women and men aged 50 or older, the usual T-score categories are:

T-scoreMeaning
−1.0 or aboveNormal range
Below −1.0, above −2.5Low bone density
−2.5 or belowOsteoporosis range

These categories are for valid diagnostic measurement sites. A result is considered alongside your history and fracture risk.

Will I need regular repeat scans?

Timing depends on why you were scanned and whether a repeat result would change your care. Similar preparation and the same scanner help with comparison. Small differences may reflect measurement variation.[2]

Is this the same as a CT or MRI scan?

No. DXA is designed for bone density and body-composition measurements. It uses low-dose X-rays and does not provide the detailed organ assessment offered by CT or MRI. Your clinician may recommend a different test for a specific symptom.[1, 4]

INDO-EUROPEAN TELERADIOLOGY

Already have
CT or MRI scans?

Request an independent imaging review by European-trained radiologists, for patients, referring doctors and imaging centres.

Know more

A second opinion reviews scans performed elsewhere. The radiologist needs the original imaging, available reports and relevant clinical information. This service does not include a new scan. Fees depend on the examination and are separate from the ₹300 DXA discussion.
